Land is scarce too, so should be included in that list.

Its worth recalling the reason why socialists believe in the state. Because without the state the rich and powerful will oppress the poor and powerless. The state should be a tool of liberation, intervening to prevent rich and powerful forces limiting the potential of the rest of society.
